Matthew Ostrowitz, MD FACS

Dr. Matthew Ostrowitz initially joined Long Island Surgical, PLLC in 2020, bringing with him his interest and experience in Acute Care General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery, Diaphragmatic and Abdominal Wall Hernia Repair, and Anti-Reflux Surgery. Dr. Ostrowitz graduated from Emory University in 1998, and received his medical degree from the State University of New York – Downstate College of Medicine in 2002. He completed his General Surgery residency training in 2008, graduating from the University of Kansas Medical Center program. In addition to residency training, he has also completed fellowships in Burn and Wound Surgery, Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care.  

Dr. Ostrowitz’s vast experience extends back to 2009 when he served as an Attending Surgeon at The Staten Island University Hospital.  From there, he served as the Section Chief of Robotic and Bariatric Surgery at Sound Shore Medical Center until 2012,  he practiced as an Attending Surgeon at Tri-State Bariatrics until 2016, and through 2019, Dr. Ostrowitz served as a Wound Care Surgeon for the Vohra Post Acute Physicians’ Practice, a national practice with 300 physicians servicing over 3000 facilities.  

During this time, Dr. Ostrowitz continued to broaden his depth of knowledge through several research incentives and presentations in the areas of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery and Clinical Robotic Surgery.  His accomplishments in these fields are included in several publications, including the International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery and he is the recipient of the 2010 Best Video Award for General Surgery, which documents a Single Incision Right Colectomy: Robotic Assisted vs. Standard Laparoscopic procedures.  

Dr. Ostrowitz holds Professional Licensure and Board Certification to practice Surgery in New York State, and he is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.  When not at the hospital, Dr. Ostrowitz enjoys spending time with his wife Alison and two boys, Dylan and Kellen, skiing, concerts, and closely following the New York Islanders.
